Bodyflow® was invented in the mid-nineties by Laurent Pujol a French Osteopath who had an interest in sports recovery. With a strong interest in skiing, Pujol’s interest in sports recovery was based on the importance of the lymphatic system in flushing out of toxins and by-products created by high intensity exercise.
Pujol trialled various therapies and electro-stimulation techniques and came across a specific fine-tuned frequency that specifically stimulated smooth muscle (a muscle type found in veins, arteries and lymphatics) and produced remarkable results in increased circulation and fluid drainage thus fast tracking the recovery process from high intensity sport.
The patented Bodyflow® devices are now manufactured in Germany with the global distribution being owned by privately owned Australian company, Bodyflow International Pty Ltd.
The scope of stimulation of smooth muscle has stemmed out to other research areas such as management of Lymphoedema and the anti-thrombotic properties of Bodyflow® . With three clinical trials being presented across Australia and Internationally throughout September and October 2007, Bodyflow® will fast become the preferred methods of management of Lymphoedema and the standard in sports recovery.
Bodyflow® Therapy promotes the flow of body fluids such as blood and lymph by its ability to stimulate smooth muscle within veins, arteries and lymphatic vessels using a specific patented electro-stimulation frequency.
Smooth muscle also known as Tunica Media is a non-striated muscle that differs in function and structure to skeletal and cardiac muscle. Primarily under the control of the autonomic nervous system, smooth muscle is apparent through out all tubules of the body - in the walls of ‘hollow organs’, veins, arteries, lymphatic system, intestinal tracts, bladder etc. Where there is an excess of fluid, blood and toxins within or around tissue, Bodyflow® Therapy promotes drainage through stimulation of the arterial, venous and lymphatic systems thereby helping people to recover faster.
The treatment involves attaching to the appropriate part of the patient’s body a number of cups and/or electrodes which apply a mild transdermal (through skin) electrical stimulus.
The increased flow of blood and lymph is encouraged to the kidneys to be detoxified, filtered. This results in the toxins and by-products eventually being passed in the urine.
Bodyflow® provides symptomatic relief to conditions that have resulted from poor circulation (blood flow) and or lymphatic uptake.
Conditions that can be treated by Bodyflow® include:
Fluid Flushing (lymphatic uptake)
Increased Blood flow
Bodyflow® therapy should not be used on people whom:
If you are not sure about the suitability of the treatment for you, consult your medical practitioner.
Bodyflow® technology is available Australia-wide through Authorised Bodyflow Clinics. Authorised Bodyflow Clinics are practicing medical, physiotherapy and Lymphoedema clinics that are officially recognised by Bodyflow to treat patients using this world-first technology.
