COLLINGWOOD is about to take the use of electro-stimulation technology in the AFL to new heights.
The Magpies will use the Bodyflow product, which helps players recover faster from muscle fatigue by stimulating the muscle system.
Other clubs are trialling two or three portable devices, but it is believed Collingwood has agreed to buy 25.
Given each device is valued at almost $4000, the Magpies are investing about $100,000 in a bid to gain an edge on the opposition.
Every player in the senior squad will have access to a unit, about three times the size of a mobile phone.
Electrodes are applied to muscles in 20-minute phases, using a frequency devised by the French inventor of the product.
Bodyflow helps flush out toxins and other byproducts resulting from exercise, according to company chief executive Joe Di Santo.
Collingwood tested the product on its pre-season camp to Arizona in the US.
Half of the touring party used Bodyflow and the other half went without. It is believed the performance of the players using Bodyflow was significantly better.
It was enough for Collingwood to follow the lead of NRL club Melbourne Storm and make the significant investment in the product.
Bodyflow claims it can speed up recovery by 24-48 hours.
It is considered particularly effective for long flights after interstate games.
On a flight to Perth, a player would typically hook up to his unit for three 20-minute sessions.
The units can also be used at halftime in games, reducing muscle fatigue and helping players to run out matches.
Some clubs have already used Bodyflow during breaks.
Bodyflow is used in 20-minute phases.

This could be one of the funniest feedbacks I've read. It's an absolute waste of money. We does everyone have to over analyse things??? Surely Mickey Mouse is on his last legs with a win/loss ratio of around 50% after 10 years. Who else would get a 10 year gig with no results? Probably Wallace...! I laugh everytime I see Maxwell, as captain he wouldn't get a game at most afl clubs. He's more concerned about proving he's not a dweeb than getting the footy.

Seems like a lot of the negative comments about this story are because of Collingwoods strong financial situation as a club. Dont forget, jealousy is a curse !!!!!! I do agree on one thing though. They need to start getting some more victories on the ground.

I agree with all here.Who cares? The AFL(and supporters) beleive Collingwood are the Man U of the comp, and this little sagga is supposed to make them leaders in fitness technology? Reality check.. One flag in 20 years does not make you a powerhouse in the AFL!!!
